The Wylye Valley Art Trail is a 9 - day festival of visual art and crafts in and around the Wylye Valley, South Wiltshire, from Saturday 28 May – Sunday 5 June 2011. It was established in 2001 and takes place every other year. This will be the sixth WVAT. We aim to build on the success of the previous five events.

It consists of open studios and workplaces, galleries, exhibitions by individual artists, craftspeople and groups, and other events such as  demonstrations, workshops and children’s activities.

AREA

The Wylye Valley Art Trail covers a 12 mile radius from the centre of the Wylye Valley, including Warminster, Westbury, Maiden Bradley, Mere, Hindon, Tisbury, Wylye, and villages in between.

ORGANISATION

Wylye Valley Art Trail is an artist led, non - profit  organisation, run by a team consisting of  10 volunteer members. No-one is paid or receives a salary for the work they do for WVAT.

The Wylye Valley Art Trail is predominantly paid for by artist's fees, although we gratefully receive 7.5% of our funding from Wiltshire Council.

PUBLICITY

The Wylye Valley Art Trail has become a regular fixture on the arts calendar in the South West. We aim to actively promote and advertise locally, regionally and, where possible, nationally. We'll be seeking coverage through newspapers, on radio, TV and online. As well as this, much depends on participants promoting their own exhibitions.

THE GUIDEMAP

Our principal means of publicity is the WVAT'11 Guidemap, which will be published in April 2011, with an estimated print run of 30,000 copies. This takes the form of a booklet, with listings and images for each event. It also has a map of the area, with numbered references to the listings.

Guidemaps are distributed to Tourist Information Centres, Libraries, Arts and Leisure Centres, Galleries, Shops, Pubs, Hotels and many other outlets in a wide area around and beyond the Wylye Valley.

Participants will be able to collect quantities of guidemaps for their own publicity purposes.

We are setting- up a volunteer network for distributing guidemaps and posters, please indicate on the entry form if you can help.

THE WEBSITE

All the information and images which appear in the Guidemap will also be on The Wylye Valley Art Trail website: www.wvat.co.uk . Participants can also have links to their own websites.

After the art trail, the website becomes "The Trail Goes on...!" with ongoing listings for the visual arts in this area. Participants taking part in WVAT'11 will be entitled to 2 years of free event and exhibition listings on this site.

ENTRY

To be eligible to participate, you need to be resident in, work in, based in or have a strong interest or connection with South + West Wiltshire.

You just need to find a venue and organize your own event. If you're having problems finding a venue, or you'd like to find someone to share a venue, we may be able to help or advise, just contact us

ENTRY FEES

In order to achieve a high- quality and well- promoted event, participation fees have had to be raised a bit since WVAT' 09. The fee for an individual artists is £88 ( less if there's more than one artist sharing a venue ). The fee for an Art Group is £113 and the fee for a Gallery is £172. Still modest when compared to other open arts events and we hope you still feel you are receiving value for money.

take pArt

Participatory events are very popular and could attract lots more visitors to your event.  It would be particularly good to offer some ‘hands on’ workshops for children or some youth- oriented activities, as the Art Trail coincides with local school's half- term.

If you are able to run a workshop, give a demonstration, a talk, or set up any kind of ‘hands on’ activity please give details in the space provided on the form. There will be no extra charge for this listing. You'll need to state whether people need to book. Include booking details and how much ( if anything! ) it will cost.

TEACHING

If you teach courses, workshops or regular classes at other times, you can have the 'teaching' symbol on your listing. Just tick the box on the form and state the subjects you teach. If you are an art group which holds workshops and you welcome people who are non- members please also tick the box

IMAGE REQUIREMENTS

We require high quality images of your work for the guidemap and for publicity purposes. Please send 3 to 6 images of recent work which are representative of what can be seen at your event. They should be digital images* (minimum 300 dpi and at least A6 size, on a CD). Please ensure that they are in focus, and of good clear quality with strong contrast. Images of 2D work should not include frames or mounts. Images of 3D work should be against a plain, contrasting background.

Images should be titled, with size and medium. You are advised to send CDs in a reinforced  envelope.

*Unfortunately, we no longer accept slides and photos prints due to the costs of scanning.
